Meet the Team

Dr. Asha Hassan, PhD, MPH
She/Her/Hers
Director and Assistant Professor
Asha Hassan is the Director of the Collective for Reproductive Health Research and Justice (CRHRJ) and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Women’s Health at the University of Minnesota Medical School. She received a BA in Gender and Women's Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also has an MPH in Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology and a PhD in Health Services Research Policy and Administration, both from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. Her research focuses on conceptualizing the relationship between structural factors and reproductive health access, decision-making, and outcomes. 
 

Dr. Christy Boraas, MD, MPH
She/Her/Hers
Associate Professor
Dr. Boraas received her master's degree in epidemiology from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, and her medical degree with honors from the University of Minnesota Medical School, Minneapolis. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, OH and went on to complete her fellowship in complex family planning at the Magee-Women's Hospital at the University of Pittsburgh. During her education, she also completed four elective rotations/internships in developing countries. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and complex family planning.

Muna Hassan, MPH
She/Her/Hers 
Research Specialist
Muna earned her Master of Public Health in Epidemiology with a Global Health concentration from the University of Washington. She previously worked as a Research Coordinator at the University of Minnesota's School of Public Health - HPM Division, where her work centered on health equity, health communications, and mixed-methods research on cancer care and media narratives. She now applies this experience to reproductive health research, aiming to investigate and address structural inequities in access and care.

Madeline Mahoney, BA
She/Her/Hers
Research Specialist
Madeline is a research specialist at CRHRJ with several years of research experience working at Planned Parenthood North Central States. She received a BA in philosophy from the University of Chicago in 2024. Madeline’s research relates to family planning and health equity, with a specific interest in male contraception and understanding reproductive healthcare experiences and access.
 

Nicole Quinones, MPH
She/Her/Ella
Graduate Research Assistant
Nicole is a Research Assistant at CRHRJ and a PhD Candidate in the Division of Health Policy and Management at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. She earned her Master in Public Health in health policy from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and has extensive experience working in sexual and reproductive health and health equity. As a health services researcher, her research focuses on how structural inequities arise through health policy and impact abortion and other reproductive health care access. Nicole also studies the historical and contemporary role of midwives in birth and abortion care in the United States. She was awarded the Emerging Scholars grant from the Society of Family Planning in 2023 for her dissertation work which explores the impact of financial stress on abortion patients.  
 

Dr. Mayrose Porter, MD, MSc

OB/GYN Resident
Dr. Mayrose Porter is a second year OBGYN resident at the University of Minnesota. Originally from Texas, she completed her undergraduate degree at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA before moving to Houston for her medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine. She additionally holds a masters in medical anthropology from the University of Edinburgh, where she focused her research on the overlap between pregnancy loss and abortion. She is passionate about exploring the experience of abortion and her current research looks at post-abortion contraception.
 

Claire McGlave, MPH

Doctoral Candidate
Claire McGlave is a doctoral candidate in the Health Services Policy & Administration program. She is interested in reproductive health, hospital policy, and equitable access to care. Claire received her Masters in Public Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and earned a B.A. in Sociology and Dance at Bates College. Her research aims to provide policy makers with timely and relevant insights about the U.S. healthcare system that catalyze equitable access to care.
 

Abby Grabowski
She/Her/Hers
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Abby is attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a major in Sociology, with a Concentration in Analysis & Research, and minors in Global Health and Health Policy. Her ongoing education and research interests lie in pursuing justice in public health, and exploring how quantitative analysis can be applied to guide shifting public health policy.
